Do Submissions to Article Directories Still Work?
Once upon a time, in a cyberspace long ago article marketing through directories was an extremely powerful tool to increase search engine traffic. Basically, people were submitting one article to hundreds of article directories with the intention of building a massive number of inbound links to their website. That was before Google included the ‘duplicate content’ rule. Now the question is, are article directories any advantage to search engine optimisation at all?
Some say it still works just as well as it did in years gone by. Others say, avoid directories because they will actually harm your rankings. I believe these views are both extreme and the truth is somewhere in between.
I believe article directories can still help but you should not submit the same article to every directory you can. Submit a unique article to just the best few article directories with high Page Rank for the best results. This is particularly useful if you have just launched your website and are not listed in the search engines at all.
Let’s face it, you could have built the best website ever made, used title tags and keywords correctly and it will still take time to appear in search results. This is where submissions to article directories can really help speed up the process.
Once you have completed a few submissions to the best few Article Directories, you should notice an increase in traffic.
Site traffic will be generated through the back-links you get out of posting the URL of your site to these Article Directories. When most people see this they often try two things:
- Submit more articles to the same directories
- Submit articles to more articles to other directories
While both these ideas could help, chances are they wont be as effective as the first few articles posted. That’s why I advise clients to stop there and move on to other search engine optimisation strategies. My advice is to use article directories to kick-start your website and then add your articles to your own website to maximise the return on your time investment.
I know there are many ideas on this topic. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
