Killer Signage Design for Small Businesses
Today, most small businesses disregard entirely old school advertising with signs. ‘What’s the point of them?’ you might wonder. ‘We have the internet now.’ Businesses that do online and offline advertising and marketing have more chances to attract customers than businesses which limit themselves to just the online environment.
Here are some essential signage design tips for your small business.
- Each sign you put out there needs a purpose: a branding campaign to increase awareness, a sale special, a new product launch, and so on. Design your sign to fit your purpose and don’t clutter it with every single product or service you provide.
- Make sure your message is clear. Regardless of who you’re targeting or of where you place your sign, the message it conveys needs to be picked up almost instantly. Most people are probably going to just glance at your sign for a moment. They need to be able to ‘get it’ immediately.
- Target a specific audience. Everyone who walks past your sign may see it. But your target audience are the only people you need to respond after seeing it. It goes without saying that you should design your sign specifically for your target audience, using appropriate colours, fonts, and graphics.
- Consider the location carefully. A sign placed on the side of a tram is constantly moving, which is why it should be more visual than text. A sign placed on the inside of a tram, on the other hand, can contain a little more text since people are sitting there for a period of time so they can read all your sign. Your sign must be appropriate for its location.
- Focus on branding. Put not only your logo on your sign, but also your tagline in the correct font, and use your brand colour scheme too. The logo and the colour scheme are the first things people see, and if they appear exactly as they do on your shop-front or other marketing material, they will increase the sense of familiarity with your brand.
