WordPress: Marketing Blog Basics
Once you already have your own website, one of the things you should focus on doing is to make sure your site will be indexed by search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. While you can get noticed just by your website alone, you can give this a bit of a push by blogging. The articles you post in your blog will draw in the attention not just of search engines, but also of your target audience who are into looking for information when they visit websites.
Target Long-Tail Keywords
Adding a blog to your website is a great way to build connections with your target market. It’s also a great way to target more long-tail keywords. This type of keyword have more than two words in them and are usually the search terms used by your people you will believe will benefit from your products or services.
Take a keyword, write an interesting article around it and add it to your website once or twice a week. Before long, you will have a massive website attracting traffic for a number of keywords.
Use WordPress – It is Blogging-Friendly
Marketing through blogs is very powerful. This is why we often recommend WordPress for building small business websites. It is the leading blogging software worldwide and it’s free so you are only paying for the customisation, design and setup. It’s far superior compared to many of the paid-for website systems out there simply due to the number of people contributing and improving it regularly.
If you do choose to go with some kind of proprietary software, be mindful that you may be locking yourself into a system that can only be supported by the company providing it. It could be an expensive decision in the long run. The other thing about this type of software is that often a company will have “their own” system, when in fact it’s something they purchased and rebadged as their own. Just do your research, before you get involved in any of these systems.
Video Blogging
You could also try video blogging. You could post these on your blog so people will start to build a sense of who you really are and feel connected with you. They can relate with you as a real, honest, authentic person. Make sure you also post the videos on YouTube with a link back to your website at the start of the description. Again, call it something appealing to humans first and then put in keywords for search engines.
